Dinner Meeting with Dr. Jeff Wilson
February 18 @ 5:45 pm - 8:00 pm
The featured speaker for the San Marino City Club’s February 18, 2020 meeting is San Marino Unified School District’s Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jeff Wilson.
Jeff will be speaking about the current challenges facing San Marino Unified, which includes declining enrollment–an issue that is also being felt statewide and throughout the San Gabriel Valley. Dr. Wilson will also share efforts to support teachers and students in navigating the ever-evolving shifts in both educational philosophy/policy and technology trends. Finally, he will provide insight on the strategies he and his team are developing to tackle these issues and to ensure that San Marino Unified students have access to the tools they will need to make a positive impact on the world. He promises that it will be a presentation that you won’t want to miss and even better than his excellent presentation for San Marino Rotary Club last month!
For over 26 years, Dr. Jeff Wilson has devoted himself to serving students, teachers, school staff, families, and communities through public education. Starting his career as a Math Teacher, Dr. Wilson shifted to supporting teachers as an Assistant Principal, Principal, Assistant Superintendent, and, now, Superintendent. As a leader who is dedicated to innovation and is guided by doing what is best for students, Dr. Wilson empowers teachers and principals to be at the forefront of initiating and leading instructional reforms in support of student success. Currently, Dr. Wilson is working tirelessly to build a team around him that is eager to take on the challenges faced in San Marino and provide San Marino Unified students with an exceptional educational experience that will prepare them to be sound leaders of the future.
Dr. Wilson hails from San Gabriel Valley’s Glendora community and graduated from Glendora High School. His higher education pursuits led him to California State University, Fullerton, where he earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree; Biola University, where he obtained a Master of Divinity degree; and Azusa Pacific University, where he earned a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. In addition to being a devoted husband to his teacher-wife and best friend, Corrine, for 31 years, Dr. Wilson is a doting father to his 25-year-old daughter, Ally, who serves as a Burn ICU Nurse at Torrance Memorial Hospital. While one may think Dr. Wilson has reached a pinnacle in his life as San Marino Unified’s Superintendent, his first coronation was as the President of the Sandburg Junior High Bowling League.
