Dinner Meeting with Speaker Oscar Wei (Reception 5:45/Dinner 6:30)

The featured speaker for the October 15 San Marino City Club meeting is Mr. Oscar Wei, Senior Economist and Director of Research for the CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® (C.A.R.).
The title of his talk is “The 2019-2020 Housing Market Outlook. As an economist at C.A.R., Oscar provides regular updates on the economy, state and regional housing markets, consumer behaviors, and public policy issues. He has written articles and reports on subjects including housing supply, affordability, mortgage finance, homeownership, tax reform, and other topics related to the real estate industry. He contributes frequently to C.A.R.’s Monthly Housing Market Outlook Webinar, Housing Matters Podcast, and Market Snapshot. His work has been quoted in the Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Kiplinger’s, NPR, KFI, as well as other outlets.
His City Club talk will provide an overview of the California housing market in recent years and highlight its improvement over the last few months. Mr. Wei will share his thoughts on how near record-low interest rates have affected sales and prices in the market and what impact they have had on the overall housing affordability. He will explore whether the momentum of the past few months will be carried forward and how the general economic condition, consumer sentiment, and the landscape of the real estate industry will affect the prospects for the coming year. Mr. Wei will also discuss where the market is heading and what challenges we will face in the next couple years.
Mr. Wei earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master of Science Degree in Economics from the California Polytechnic University, Pomona.
