Dinner Meeting with Speaker Story Musgrave, MD and Former Astronaut

The San Marino City Club will be hosting Story Musgrave as its principal speaker for the October 16, 2018 Dinner Meeting. Story is an MD and former Astronaut, and his topic will be “Farm Kid to Rocket Man and Way Beyond: Excellence, Exploration and Evolution”
Story was a NASA Astronaut for over 30 years and flew on six spaceflights. He performed the first shuttle spacewalk on Challenger’s first flight, was a pilot on an astronomy mission, conducted two classified DOD missions, was the lead spacewalker on the Hubble Telescope repair mission and operated an electronic chip manufacturing satellite on Columbia. He was the lead communicator in mission control for 25 missions.
Today he is a producer/director of multimedia, a landscape architect, a heavy equipment operator, an artist/designer/engineer with Applied Minds Inc. and a Professor of Design at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. Story also performs multimedia presentations on the topics of design-driven innovation, personal and professional development, operational excellence, human performance, reliability, quality, and safety.
He never finished school, ran off to Korea with the U. S. Marines at 17 where he was an aircraft engine mechanic, crew chief and plane captain at K-6 Airbase, Korea and on the carrier USS Wasp. He is a parachutist with over 800 freefalls including 100 experimentals involving the first study of the aerodynamics of the free-flying human body.
He has 6 graduate degrees in math, computers, chemistry, medicine, biological physics, and literature and has been awarded 21 honorary doctorates. He was a part-time trauma surgeon at Denver General Hospital for the duration of his astronaut career. He has 7 beautiful children, 3 beautiful grandchildren, and a beautiful wife, Amanda.
City Club members may RSVP by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, or by calling (626) 765-4411 and leaving a message with the member’s name and the full name of any guest whom the member wishes to invite. Generally, Members’ dinners are included as part of their annual dues, and Guest fees are $30.00 ($15.00 for children 12 and under) payable at the door to San Marino City Club. The reception, to be held at the San Marino Center, begins at 5:45 PM and dinner starts at 6:30 PM.
The San Marino City Club is a non-profit civic organization that, since 1926, has been dedicated to obtaining for the citizens of the San Marino the best civic, educational and cultural services and facilities possible, and to encourage and promote the highest standards of citizenship among its membership. The City Club membership is open to residents of the San Marino Unified School District, officials of the School District or the City of San Marino, and persons who conduct their business or profession within the School District. Membership provides the member with seven dinner meetings that feature timely, important and informative speakers on a wide variety of subjects, and the opportunity to meet many of San Marino’s wonderful citizens.
