Dr. Stephanie Zia is Clinical Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Medical Education and Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. A native of the Los Angeles area and graduate of San Marino High School, she is a four-time alumnus of USC, having completed her B.A. in education, M.D. degree, residency in Combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, Pediatrics Chief Resident year, and Masters in Academic Medicine at Keck. Dr. Zia has a deep interest in teaching and in medical education and has received multiple teaching awards from KSOM, including the resident of the year from the graduating class of 2007 and Master Teacher designation. She is also a student and faculty recipient of the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine award.
Clinically, Dr. Zia is a Med/Peds hospitalist and works with the underserved adult and pediatrics populations at LAC+USC Medical Center, where she is involved in medical student and residency education. While at Keck, she has held a variety of roles at the undergraduate and graduate medical educations levels including: assistant program director for the Combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency program at LAC+USC, co-director of the Professionalism and the Practice of Medicine course for first year medical students, and Assistant Dean for Career Advising in the Office of Student Affairs.
In her current role as the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, she helps oversee career advising, academic support, wellness, and student life for the Keck medical student community. She currently co-directs the EPIC course, which explores professional identity formation as students transition in their career and personal development as physicians, and she also co-directs Keck’s inaugural medical student coaching program.
