From Iraq to the hospital and advice to stay out of it
Steven Park, Internal Medicine physician for Kaiser Permanente and long-time San Marino resident, will be the featured speaker for the Tuesday, March 16 meeting of the San Marino City Club. Dr. Park will speak on his experience in Iraq as a Navy medical officer followed by a review of preventive health and actions one can take to minimize the risk of hospitalization.
Steve grew up in San Marino attending Carver Elementary, Huntington Middle School, and San Marino High School graduating in 1993. He played football and baseball earning All-CIF honors in both sports. He was selected as CIF’s Student-Athlete of the Year in 1993. He completed his undergraduate degree at Stanford University, medical degree at Saint Louis University, and Internal Medicine residency training at Washington University School of Medicine in Saint Louis.
In 2005, Steve began active duty service in the Navy as a medical officer stationed at Naval Hospital 29 Palms. In 2006, he deployed to Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom providing trauma medical care to wounded U.S. service members and Iraqi Army. He left active duty service in 2009 with the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
Currently a hospitalist at Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park Medical Center, Steve provides inpatient medical care as well as other roles as an Advanced Cardiac Life Support instructor and stroke champion. He was selected the hospital’s Internist of the Year in 2013. He has been on the front line of COVID inpatient care and has a strong interest in promoting preventive health to help people stay out of the hospital.
Steve is married to Jennifer Park, an OB/GYN for Fair Oaks Women’s Health. They have two children, Ryan 15, a freshman at San Marino High, and Sydney 13, a 7th grader at Huntington. Steve’s parents, Brian and Sharon Park, remain long-time residents of San Marino.
